After the class, students lined up to take "selfies" with Ithe Nigerian potter including Devin Karnes.
The rim of this filtration bowl shows the tiny cracks throughout the pottery which allow water to to filter through and be purified. The base of the bowl is dipped in colloidal silver which dries to form a layer which kills bacteria as water seeps through.
Shenango art teacher Jason Naelitz (left) was a student of Professor Richard Wukich who now is a driving force behind the ceramic water filter initiative. Here Naelitz chats with Nigerian potter IBK who will be operating a factory to make the filters.
IBK tells students how difficult it is to get clean water in his native Nigeria and how many children die from waterborne illnesses.
